The Oregon State Treasury Resiliency Building project focused on utilizing a resilient design to protect occupants and ensure the continuation of government after a natural disaster. Pence/Kelly had the important job of ensuring that the foundation was set up perfectly to withstand any future earthquake. The project started with preparing the below grade waterproofing and reinforcing for the 16,000 SF mat slab. Unique to this project, the first floor slab is on a metal deck due to the entire building being seismically isolated from the surrounding site. Placing the mat slab included 1,400 CY of concrete in one continuous operation. This process utilized (2) 58-meter concrete pump trucks. On top of the two-foot mat slab, 28 concrete pedestals were poured for the seismic isolators to set on. These seismic isolators are what will help the building stay structurally sound during an earthquake. The building has earned LEED Gold equivalency and a platinum rating from the US Resiliency Council and is the first base isolated USRC Platinum structure in the US. In addition, the project was built to LEED Gold equivalency.
